Underwater Academy Australia are located at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast Queensland, Australia.
We run our courses, dive trips, events and retreats from a variety of locations depending on numerous factors. Our retreats head to amzing locations such as Lady Elliot Island, Lord Howe Island, Ningaloo Reef just to name a few!
For our SCUBA courses the pool sessions are held at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Southport and then the Open Water Dives are at a variety of locations depending on the course. The Open Water course dives are usually held at tweed River Dive Site, whereas the boat dives will usually leave from Dry Dock Rd, Boat Ramp, Tweed Heads
Our FREEDIVING courses and training are held at Miami Aquatic Centre, Miami, and the boat dives depart either from Southport Broadwater, or from Dry Dock Rd, Boat Ramp, Tweed Heads.

Our regular training location for SCUBA Courses, from Discover SCUBA Diving Experiences, Open Water, Advanced, & Rescue Courses, adjacent the Jack Evans Boat Hardour and behind Duranbah Beach.
No border passes are necessary if travelling from within Qld – just don’t head south past Twin Towns!

This course will refine and develop your skills, taking you from an entry level Freediver to being able to Constant Weight Freedive 20 to 24 metres deep, Dynamic Apmea of at least 50 metres, and Static Apnea for at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds!
We start with reviewing the more advanced theory about your body and mind as a Freediver, refresh ourselves about safe diving practices, then jump into the heated pool for static and dynamic practice, working on streamlining and technique and exploring “no-fins”.
On day2 we are out on the boat to find clean deep water and explore greater depths before refining our advanced rescue skills.

Conducted over 2 tailored sessions we introduce you to the underwater world in a safe, controlled, and easy way that teaches about equipment, the underwater environment, interacting with aquatic life, the effects of being underwater on the skin diver, the buddy system and safety procedures.
We introduce and practice Skin Diving techniques including snorkel breathing and clearing, duckdiving, and breath holding.

This course covers the theory and confined water elements of learning to Freedive, and we practice both static and dynamic apnea disciplines over one day or 2 half-days/evenings.

Together you’ll receive a short briefing and demonstration then spend about 2 hours exploring your aquatic selves.

You will need to provide:
Go from a novice to being able to Freedive 10 to 16 metres deep, swim at least 25 metres horizontally underwater, and hold your breath for at least 90 seconds – in just 2 days!
On day 1 we firstly have a short theory recap session where we cover the effect of being underwater on you the Freediver, discuss safety, and learn effective relaxation and breathing techniques to allow you to dive safely and efficiently. We then jump into the pool (heated!) to practice static and dynamic breath-hold in confined water, along with practicing safety techniques specific to Freediving.
Day 2 sees us board the dive boat and head out to enter open water and practice various disciplines of Freediving, learning to adjust our bodies and minds, and equalize while descending to a maximum depth of 16 metres. We practice “Constant Weight” and “Free Immersion” dives and have the opportunity to also try “Variable Weight” and “Constant Weight No Fins” depending on the group and the conditions, while also learning and practicing buddy and safety techniques.
